Report: Brian Hoyer, Jarrett Stidham Working Out Together At Patriots’ Private Throwing Sessions

Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and journeyman veteran Brian Hoyer will have to compete for the empty quarterback spot on the roster, and these private throwing sessions may be of great help.

The greatest of all time left the Patriots to sign a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots lost their key contributor in free agency, and they will have to work really hard to replace him. Brady isn’t the only contributor Bill Belichick lost in free agency. For now, replacing TB12 is a priority.

Jarrett Stidham will use his private throwing sessions to earn himself a spot on the field

Stidham was considered a “catalyst” for private throwing sessions in the offseason. However, both quarterbacks have been practicing. Privately. The information was confirmed by several sources including Mike Reiss from ESPN.

“At one of the recent Patriots private throwing sessions that quarterback Jarrett Stidham helped organize with teammates, there was no center on the field, so Stidham was snapping the ball to Brian Hoyer,” Reiss reported. “And vice versa. The exchanges highlight an important working dynamic between the two: They are fiercely competitive in hopes of being the successor to Tom Brady, but also sacrificing to help each other. Teams can’t force a positive working relationship between their top quarterbacks, but with Hoyer’s experience and top-shelf professionalism, it was never really in question how it would look this year in New England.”

Both Stidham and Hoyer have skills, and Belichick will make them compete for the empty spot. Hoyer has more experience than his younger teammate. He has been a Patriots player for five seasons in two different stints. However, Hoyer has only started more than 10 games in his football career. He was never a first-string quarterback for the Patriots.

The Patriots selected Stidham in the fourth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Returning Patriots veterans had great words for him despite the fact that he has thrown just four passes. Stidham spent most of his rookie campaign on the Patriots bench.

The coronavirus pandemic has affected every aspect of the football game. New England is waiting for further instructions on minicamp and training camp. Players can’t wait to get back and play some real football.
