The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked with JR Smith for quite some time. Well, it looks like they are ready to ad him to their roster. This move comes right on time for the NBA return in Orlando, Florida. The information was confirmed by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and several other sources.
The Lakers discussed with Smith and things got really hot when guard Avery Bradley confirmed his decision to sit out the season restart. Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers are in the final stages of contract negotiations with the veteran.
The Lakers will use the talent JR Smith offers
Smith hasn’t played an NBA league since 2018. In that season, he played with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played six minutes in the 113-102 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Nov. 19. Smith worked out for LeBron James’ Lakers in March as the team planned to add him to the roster. Well, it didn’t happen, and the Lakers signed Dion Waiters instead of Smith.
Smith joined forces with King James and the Cavaliers from 2014-18. It turns out that he had a key role for the Cavaliers and their effort to make the NBA Finals each of these seasons. In Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals, Smith scored 12 points for 5-for-13 shooting (2-for-8 on 2-pointers) as the Cavaliers won their title. This was the team’s first title.
Things got worse when King James left the Cavaliers to join the Lakers before the 2018-19 campaign.
Smith played in just 11 contests that year and stepped away from the team in an effort to be traded or released. The Cavaliers cut Smith last summer and has been looking for a new home ever since.
The veteran will have a huge role in the Lakers, and he will be of great help for the team. Let’s see how will things turn for the Lakers this time. They hope to win a title, and they also have enough talent to win it. It will be more than exciting to see the older teammates join forces again. LeBron and Smith had really great success together. Hopefully, they will do the same again.
