Report: Los Angeles Lakers Open For ‘Costly Trade’ To Acquire Underrated Guard

The Los Angeles Lakers may be ready to discuss a potential trade for the New Orleans Pelicans veteran guard Jrue Holiday. This deal will be of great help for the team, but the front office will have to “unload valuable assets.” Will the Lakers take the risk?

Jonathan Kiernan of the Lake Show Life predicted a three-team trade deal that would turn Holiday into a Lakers player. The Cleveland Cavaliers are the third team to take part in this swap deal.

According to this projection, LA would give up on Danny Green, Kyle Kuzma, Quinn Cook and a 2020 first-round pick. These players will join the Cavs and the Pelicans would get Love before shipping Holiday to Los Angeles.

“To say that this would be a costly trade for the Los Angeles Lakers is an understatement,” Kiernan wrote. “They would effectively be handing over the rest of their remaining assets to land Point Guard Jrue Holiday.”

The Lakers could really use a guard

The former UCLA guard is considered one of the best two-way players in the league. In his career, Holiday averages 15.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.5 steals all while shooting 45.2% from the field and 35.5% from beyond the arc. His offensive numbers are commendable, but his defensive effort is even biger.

“Jrue Holiday isn’t just a good defender for his position, he is elite. Regardless of what position you play, Jrue Holiday is going to lock you up,” Kiernan noted. “With the NBA full of point guard who can explode for 30 or 40 points at any given time, Holiday offers refuge from this barrage and that is something the Los Angeles Lakers could absolutely use going forward. Jrue has deceptively long arms, fantastic lateral quickness, and has a toughness that allows him to get in the faces of his opponent and show no fear. A quality that is valued and appreciated with any team. Having such a versatile defender like holiday makes the entire team’s job much easier. The Lakers would have the potential to put 4 elite defenders on the floor at one time to lock down the opposing team.”

Holiday is a nice fit for LeBron and Davis

Holiday has kept the same approach since joining the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2009 draft. He was 17th overall pick and was named an All-Star just once. Of course, this has nothing to do with the fact that he has great performance on the field. The Lakers have all the talent to move on, and Holiday is a perfect fit for the team.

LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the rest of the players are getting ready for the season resumpton. We don’t know whether the season will resume because some players don’t feel like playing. Kyrie Irving, Dwight Howard, and a few other players believe that they should focus on the protest against racial injustice.
