Report: New England Patriots Fined $1.1 Million

The National Football League punished the New England Patriots for the videotaping scandal that took place Dec. 8 during a game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns. Several sources confirmed the information. The Patriots are now fined for the scandal.

This punishment will give the Patriots a $1.1 million. The team also lost the 2021 third-round draft pick as noted by the sources. The same source also confirmed that the Patriots television crews won’t be able to shoot games. Senior club officials are scheduled to have a league operation training.

The Patriots television crew was hooting the field and the Bengals sideline during the game. This gave the Patriots a hefty punishment.

Robert Kraft’s team did admit to inappropriately filming the Bengals’ sideline. They released a statement in December and confirmed that the production crew “unknowingly violated a league policy by filming the field and sideline from the press box.”

The Patriots were fined after the scandal broke

A Bengals staff member noticed the Patriots employee shooting the sideline in the press box during the game. New England said they were making a series called “Do Your Job.”

David Mondillo, a supervising producer of the Patriots in-house production crew, won’t be able to enter all NFL facilities until further notice. The team suspended him after the scandal and he also lost his job.

In December 2019, Mondillo said he was making a segment following the pro scout to give the audience a lot of details related to his job. In his statement, Mondillo explained that someone had told his cameraman to stop shooting.

“We stopped shooting immediately when asked to do so and cooperated fully,” Mondillo said. “We had a detailed exchange about who we were and why we were there and what they wanted us to do. I gave the Sony SXS card to NFL security and we complied with their request, packed up and went home. I had no intention to provide footage to football operations, I did not provide any footage, and I was never asked to do so.”

This was a rather challenging period for the Patriots. Losing a selection won’t be easy, but the NFL made a decision and it’s official.
