Report: People That Are Representing Cam Newton Initiated Conversations With Patriots

There were a lot of reports regarding veteran quarterback Cam Newton and the New England Patriots. One of the stories suggested that Newton’s representatives talked with the Patriots this offseason. Well, this doesn’t mean they wanted to get him or something.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that New England and the former Carolina Panthers quarterback spoke early in the offseason. The Panthers cut Newton in March. His situation hasn’t changed in the past few weeks. Fowler reported that “nothing materialized” from the convo.

Greg Bedard from Boston Sports Journal added more details of the story.

“The only communication I know if (there could have been more) came from Newton’s camp and it was just due diligence, not met positively or negatively,” he reported.

Will the veteran quarterback end up playing with the New England Patriots? Many believe that this scenario won’t happen. However, Bedard suggests that and the Patriots may join forces under specific conditions. The 2015 NFL MVP may come to New England.

Most analysts are convinced that second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham will take Tom Brady’s position with the Patriots. Belichick have decided to trust Stidham and give him the Starting position. Of course, this may not happen if Stidham loses his job. Veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer may take his job. He can have great success in training camp, and the Pats may decide to trust him.

Cam Newton may help the Patriots

Tom Brady left the Patriots in free agency and he signed a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The quarterback changed teams after twenty years, and he is ready to put on a different uniform. This will change the current situation in the team, but Belichick believes he has all the talent he needs to win games.

Stidham is a talented player but he lacks the experience Belichick needs to move on. Well, this may not be an obstacle for the team. Belichick didn’t select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft, but he did get two undrafted quarterbacks.

2020 will be a big season for the Patriots, and they will have David Andrews back on the team. He is fully recovered.
