Three Moves Patriots Can Still Make To Be Super Bowl Contenders in 2020

The New England Patriots have had really great success in the past two decades. They will enter a new season, and this time they will do that without their key player. Tom Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency. Although the Patriots will play through some major changes in 2020, they still can keep their championship pedigree. This will be a rather anticipating season for the team, but head coach Bill Belichick has everything he needs to win a title. There are three simple moves the Patriots should make to dominate the field.

One of them is naming second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham the starter over Brian Hoyer. The latter is on his third stint with the Patriots. He has been part of the team for five seasons. Let’s just say that Hoyer knows a lot about the Patriots system and has started 38 games in his career. Hoyer may have great experience, but he can’t put the Patriots on the top. Stidham is still a mystery, and that mystery may be intriguing for Belichick.

Another move for greater Patriots power in 2020

The second move includes Joe Thuney. New England hit the starting left guard with the franchise tag this offseason. Belichick doesn’t really use the tag. He used on Stephen Gostkowski in 2015. That was the last time. He hasn’t signed his extension but he can play with the team in 2020. An extension hasn’t been reached, and the Patriots may look for a trade partner for Thuney, get assets for him and shrink the $14.8 million cap hit. However, the Patriots need to keep the All-Pro guard if they want to win a title. Thuney will help the team in pass protection and run game.

When it comes to Jadeveon Clowney, the Patriots should get him to add a bigger boost to their defense. Clowney rejected a trade to the Miami Dolphins. He didn’t want to work with Brian Flores. Will he change his mind now? Will he accept the Patriots system now? Clowney hasn’t seen great offers on the open market, and Belichick may find a way to put him on the roster.
