Bill Belichick Gave His First Comments About Cam Newton

Head coach Bill Belichick had a really good first impression of quarterback Cam Newton. That’s what NFL fans believe. But, the Patriots head coach has yet to make comments on Newton’s role with the team. That’s just Belichick. He doesn’t really like to talk about the team’s next move. Newton’s health is one of the biggest topics right now, but Belichick didn’t say anything about it either.

The Patriots head coach appeared on NBC Sports’ broadcast of the Saturday afternoon Premier Lacrosse League game between the Redwoods and the Whipsnakes. We all know that Belichick is a Lacrosse fan. When asked to project how the former Carolina Panthers quarterback would fare a Lacrosse player, Belichick provided an interesting answer. According to Belichick, that would definitely be a tough game.

“Cam Newton looks like Myles Jones to me,” Belichick said. “He’s fast. He’s big. He’d be a tough guy to match up against. He could run by them. He could run through those stick checks, and he’d have a tough — with the stick work — a tough overhand shot, so I think those tall, long guys really have a big advantage of being able to change the angle of their shots and still be able to run through some guys.”

Bill Belichick likes Cam Newton

Well, we understand the reasons Belichick had to jump to this comparison. Newton measures at 6 feet, 245 pounds. Jones is as high as Newton, but he is 15 pounds heavier. Jones may be tough player on the Lacrosse field. Newton would impose the same danger when healthy.

New England plans to have Newton in training camp, and he has to be 100% healthy. Newton’s health has been a major concern and the Patriots will have to make a decision on his role with the team. Things will take a different turn for Newton. He has a chance to become a Patriots legend. If he fails to meet expectations, the Patriots won’t give him another contract.

The Miami Dolphins are the first team to confront a Belichick-led team. New England will play their first game on September 13. It will be an interesting game to watch.
