Ian Rapoport Releases Statement On Jadeveon Clowney to Patriots Rumors

The New England Patriots always find a reason to sign a talented veteran to a one-year deal. They did that with former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Will they do the same with other veterans? Jadeveon Clowney has been linked with the Patriots for quite some time. His talent is a good fit for head coach Bill Belichick and his team. Will Clowney have the same destiny as Newton?

The Patriots freed up over $6 million in cap space by settling contract grievances with Antonio Brown and Aaron Hernandez estate. Fans are now focused on Clowney and a few other veterans. The star free agent defensive end may sign a one-year deal with the Pats and other contenders.

Jadeveon Clowney to join the Patriots?

Clowney doesn’t really like to sacrifice his money just to join head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots. That’s what Ian Rapoport from NFL Media reported.

“I think Clowney wants to get paid,” Rapoport said on Tuesday’s “The Pat McAfee Show” episode. ” … Clowney’s thinking is, like, ‘Where can I get paid as much as possible? And if I don’t have to go to training camp for a lot of it, Eh, that probably would be OK.’ … I think Clowney would just like to make a lot of money. … We know he wants a one-year deal; I don’t think he would take just a short, tiny deal from the Patriots.”

Of course, this report didn’t really shut down every rumor about Clowney’s connection with the Patriots.

If the talented player joins the Patriots, he will have to do that without a big deal. The Patriots won’t offer him too much money, and Clowney will have to accept that. If he doesn’t like to accept a small deal, Clowney will probably try to find his home somewhere else.

The Patriots will soon enter a new season, and they will do that without Tom Brady. But, the team will accept a big challenge, and they have Cam Newton on the roster. Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer are also here. If Clowney comes to New England, he will work with Newton or Stidham.
