Lakers’ Alex Caruso Skips Sister’s Most Important Day In Life To Stay In NBA Bubble

Lakers guard Alex Caruso was excited about the NBA resumption and Orlando bubble, but there was a little problem he had to solve. Sort off. Caruso’s older sister by two years, Megan, planned to have her wedding ceremony on July 18 outside of Austin, Texas. Teams didn’t know a lot about the resumption at that point. But, Caruso was a little worried. He loves his sister and they are really close.

“Megan is as close to my No. 1 fan as anyone could get,” the Lakers guard told ESPN.

Alex and his sister have a lot of mutual friends, and many of them were supposed to attend the wedding.

Caruso talked to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel about this. He also talked to Lakers vice president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka. Both approved Caruso’s plans to attend the event. Lakers officials didn’t really make any comment on this.

Caruso was supposed to stay in quarantine again in Orlando upon his return from Megan’s wedding ceremony. He thought that the quarantine would last only four days. However, according to the league’s 113-page health and safety guidelines for the Orlando restart suggest a 10-day quarantine for basketball players and staffers who leave Disney World. These guidelines designate a four-day quarantine for those who leave with approval under “extenuating circumstances.” This includes previously schedule wedding ceremony and family events. Of course, players have to test positive for the coronavirus each day they are away.

Zion Williamson of the New Orleand Pelicans left the bubble for an urgent family matter. Montrezl Harrell of the LA Clippers left Florida to attend another urgent family matter. Caruso’s teammate Patrick Beverley went out for an emergency personal matter.

The wedding ceremony approached and the COVID-19 situation in Texas got worse. Caruso was told that he will stay in quarantine for 10 days.

“The worst-case scenario is that the virus is dormant inside me, I get cleared, and I’m around the whole team,” he said.

Pelinka and Vogel reiterated their support for the guard handling the issue how he wanted. Caruso talked to LeBron James and Anthony Davis too.

“They supported my decision either way,” Caruso said. “They also helped me realize how important I am to what we are trying to do here, now that [Avery Bradley] didn’t make it and [Rajon Rondo] hurt his hand. There is some added responsibility.”
