Lakers’ Anthony Davis Revs Up Speculation About Future

Los Angeles Lakers Anthony Davis has yet to make plans on his future in the NBA. The Lakers big man is expected to sign a long-term deal with his current team. Well, Davis has just added fuel to the fire with a viral video.

JaVale McGee was filming a blog inside the bubble. He caught Davis saying “purple till the day I day” after their scrimmage. This short line triggered an avalanche of reactions. Most fans interpreted this as a statement, saying that Davis will be a Laker for life. Well, Kyle Goon of The Orange Country Register said the video was out of context. He believes that Davis was referencing his jersey color because it was actually a purple-vs.-white scrimmage.

The franchise offered Davis an extension and he didn’t take the offer. Well, this $146 million offer was a formality. It happened on the first day the Lakers were able to make the offer. It was nothing but a sign of their loyalty to Davis.

Of course, the superstar can receive a five-year $202 million max deal this summer. He may sign a two-year deal which would give him 10 years of NBA service at the end. This would allow Davis to sign a deal worth 35 percent of the salary cap.

Anthony Davis has yet to make future plans

Davis talked about his future with the team on Tuesday. Well, he hasn’t really thought about it. He is trying to win a title in Orlando.

“I was focused on trying to see what the NBA is going to do about this season, and if we’re going to come back or not,” Davis said. “But it hasn’t crossed my mind within this three-month, four-month break.”

The Lakers big man was averaging 26.7 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game with the Lakers. He can definitely get the Defensive Player of the Year award. But, this is not on his schedule.

“I don’t have a case,” Davis said. “I let my teammates decide and the fans decide, but I just go out there and play hard every night. My biggest impact that I think I have is defensively. I love playing defense, I love stopping other players, making it tough on other players, so that’s my case in a nutshell.

“But I’m pretty sure coach has some good things, and I’m pretty sure if you guys ask LeBron he’ll have a whole list for you guys. I just go out there and try to be great and lead my team on the defensive end, and the guys get better each and every night.”

Davis will help his team win a title. This will be LeBron James’ fourth championship win. What will happen after that?
