New England Patriots Add Quarterback To Roster Heading Into Training Camp

The New England Patriots roster is working towards a new and improved team ahead of the 2020 season. There are still questions surrounding a few different positions but for the most part, things are looking good heading into training camp.

However, the New England Patriots have recently added to the team’s roster on Wednesday night.

There was a recent report that came out by Michigan State insider Graham Couch that implied that former Spartans quarterback Brian Lewerke could be coming to help out in New England.

This report comes out only a few days after Lewerke was cut from the roster so it is a bit of a surprise for everyone. He must have had a pretty big impact on the teams coaches to come so soon after being cut.

The new addition was a star at Michigan State, throwing to 8,293 yards and 47 touchdowns total. He ran for 1,255 yards and 10 touchdowns which are some pretty remarkable numbers. He was the starter at Michigan State from 2015 to 2019.

Lewerke was not drafted in the 2020 NFL draft, instead going undrafted. However, he was quick picked up by New England who gave him a deal shortly there after.

This means that New England now has 3 quarterbacks going into the 2020 season with Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer. Most people tend to agree that Newton will be the one to take over the starting job after Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay earlier this year.

It will be very interesting to see how this changes things in the quarterback room later on down the road. While most close to the organization agree that Cam Newton will win the job this fall, it will be interesting to see how this addition changes things, if it does at all.

The New England Patriots roster is growing stronger and stronger by the day and this addition only continues to strengthen a high level offense. Do you think that Lewerke has a chance to fight for the starting job before the season starts in September? Only time will tell.
