New England Patriots Re-Sign Jarrett Stidham ‘Security Blanket’

Dan Vitale and Najee Toran opted out of the 2020 NFL season. The New England Patriots decided to make a move and it involves second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham. The team brought back one of the best undrafted free agents they released two days ago.

Will Hastings received a call from the Patriots. He is a versatile wide receiver and also played football with Stidham in college. Many would say that Hastings is Stidham’s “security blanket.”

It took two hours for the Patriots to tell Hastings that he will re-join the team following the departure of Vitale and Toran. Hastings is a great player and we all know that he arrived at Auburn as a kicker. The talented player played that position for the first two years of his career before turning into a receiver for his junior and senior seasons.

Patriots will rely on the chemistry between Jarrett Stidham and Will Hastings

In college, Hastings lined up as a receiver in three seasons. He stacked 56 receptions for 845 yards and six touchdowns. The league’s best prospects at wide receiver has passed these numbers in a single season. Hastings missed the 2018 season due to an injury after having the best year at college in 2017. Stidham found Hastings 26 times for 525 yards and four touchdowns.

Maybe Hastings and Stidham will have similar chemistry on the field with the New England Patriots. Maybe Hastings will try to build his chemistry with the newly-acquired veteran Cam Newton. Analysts are convinced that Newton will be the Patriots’ starter.

The Patriots roster will see many changes in the upcoming period. They have one more position to take care of as both Vitale and Toran left the team. Hastings is the only player to return. The Patriots could have signed Kyahva Tezino, but the Carolina Panthers rushed to offer him a deal right after his release.

New England may suddenly be down at offensive lineman and head coach Bill Belichick will have to make a few more moves. Some players may leave the team, and the coronavirus pandemic may affect the team even more. It will be a tough season for everyone.
