NFL Insider Takes Strong Stance on Deshaun Watson-to-Patriots Rumors

Will the New England Patriots hit the field with Deshaun Watson on the roster? The team will enter the first season without Tom Brady and Pats have been related to so many players. Cam Newton made most of the headlines and he is about to sign a one-year deal with the team. Will Deshaun follow the same path? Fans can’t stop asking questions, and a NFL insider decided to talk about Deshaun and his chances to become a Patriot.

Newton will probably compete with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham for the leading role in 2020. But, if he doesn’t re-sign with the team in 2021, the Patriots will have to address the quarterback position again.

Is there any chance for Watson to join head coach Bill Belichick? Let’s not forget that the Houston Texans quarterback blasted his team for trading star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. This was more than enough for fans to start talking about his arrival in New England.

Is the NFL insider right about Deshaun Watson?

Jay Glazer from the Athletic has something to say about these rumors.

“Watson? What, are you crazy? Watson will be with the Houston Texans for a good decade or so. He ain’t going anywhere. There is absolutely no shot that will ever happen,” Glazer wrote in his piece. “Look, if Jarrett Stidham can beat out Cam Newton, they have the quarterback of the future right there. They know what they have in Stidham. That’s why they had so much confidence. He might be the answer. There were a lot of teams that really liked him in the draft. Then there’s the fact that he’s been able to work with Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and Jedd Fisch, the new quarterbacks coach who was working with the Rams the last two seasons. He’s got everything going for him to succeed.

“But let’s also look at Newton. If this year off helped him heal and he can play like the MVP that he’s been, then he’s their quarterback of the future. Compared to Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger, Newton, who is 31, is a spring chicken.”

Glazer relies his theory on one simple fact. The Patriots like Stidham, and he may be their “quarterback of the future.” Of course, he will have to beat Newton for the starting position first. If Newton gets the job, Stidham will have plenty of time to play under Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels and Jedd Fisch.

Let’s be honest. No one thought that Newton would join the Patriots. Well, the team got Josh Gordon, Antonio Brown and Newton, so they have proved that no player is off the table.

Watson is 24 and he is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league. This means that he will go after a big deal after his rookie contract expires in 2022. The Texans may be interest in giving him a decent contract and keep him on the roster.
