Report: Patriots Are Still AFC East Favorites Despite Opt-Outs

New England Patriots are still the favorites to win the AFC East. The COVID-19 is still causing issues even for the NFL. There are still quite a few question marks going into this season. Not only about the teams but the entire season. Nothing is set in stone as of yet and we can see this now more than ever.

More and more players are opting out of the 2020 season because of concerns regarding the Corona virus.

According to ESPN, a total of six players have now opted out of the 2020 season even before the start of training camp. Dont’a Hightower, Patrick Chung, Marcus Cannon, Brandon Bolden, Danny Vitale and Najee Toran have all made this decision.

This could prove to be a huge problem for the team going forward. Quite a few of these names are big losses for a team that was on the verge of being great. But we all know that head coach Bill Belichick knows how to lead the team to a championship. With a dynasty like this, a few losses shouldn’t hurt too much.

This will all come down to how well Cam Newton, the new quarterback signee, can preform. He took over for Tom Brady after signing a 1 year 1.75 million for this season.

His health has been a question for awhile now but apparently he is feeling better than ever due to his new plant based diet.

“I’ve seen such a remarkable change in the way my body responds to the food that I eat.”

Coach Belichick thinks that Newton will help the Patriots win back the AFC East this season. From what he has seen so far, the new quarterback is looking like a great addition.

“Cam Newton looks like Myles Jones to me. He’s fast. He’s big. He’d be a tough guy to match up against. He could run by them. He could run through those stick checks, and he’d have a tough—with the stick work—a tough overhand shot, so I think those tall, long guys really have a big advantage of being able to change the angle of their shots and still be able to run through some guys.”

We will have to wait and see if these opt outs hurt the Patriots chances at winning the AFC East again.
