Report: Patriots CB Could Be Traded Before the Start of 2020 Season

The New York Jets decided to send Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks. They will enter the 2020 season with a few changes on the roster. The same applies to pretty much every team in the NFL. The New England Patriots are about to enter a challenging season, and 2020 will be full of adjustments for the team. Who is on the Patriots’ trade block?

New England has already released one player. Lenzy Pipkins is no longer a Patriot as the team decided to cut him before the start of training camp. Releasing Pipkins may not be the only move Bill Belichick is about to made in the next few weeks.

The Patriots will make a few changes prior to the 2020 season

Ryan Queen of LWOS explained that cornerback J.C. Jackson may end up on the trade block prior to the start of 2020.

“Collectively, New England has just under 43 million cap dollars distributed amongst players such as Patrick Chung, Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, Devin McCourty, Adrian Phillips, Jonathan Jones, and J.C. Jackson. Jackson carries the lowest cap hit of the group as he is entering the final year of a three-year contract which will make him a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2020 season. Given New England’s secondary depth in conjunction with their current cap spending and needs at other positions, it is very possible that Jackson could be moved before the start of this season.”

In the past two seasons, the corner had the lowest completion percentage against of all NFL corners. Jackson is 24, and other teams will definitely be interested in getting him.

The Patriots have about $7.8 million available which means they have enough to make a few moves in the upcoming season. A Patriots cap expert said the team will first wait for the players who may opt out of the season.

Removing Jackson will actually be a cost-cutting decision. New England may get a few talented drafts for Jackson. We all know that Belichick and Nick Caserio do that really often. Patriots fans may not like the idea of removing Jackson. However, the team has a nice depth at cornerback, and they may decide to trade Jackson after all.
