Report: Patriots Release Defensive Back After Brief Relationship

The New England Patriots have parted ways with a defensive back. It was more than obvious that head coach Bill Belichick will make a few more moves before training camp.

Lenzy Pipkins joined the Patriots on Feb. 11, 2020. The 26-year-old veteran spent two seasons with the Green Bay Packers (2017), and also played with the Indianapolis Colts (2018), Detroit Lions (2018) and Cleveland Browns (2018). Pipkins measures at 6 feet, 196 pounds. The Browns had him in training camp in 2019 and then released him on August 31.

The defensive end first joined the league as a rookie agent with the Green Bay Packers out of Oklahoma State in 2017. He saw action in 12 games with one start in the rookie campaign. Pipkins finished the game with 17 tackles, one pass defended, and one special team tackle for Green Bay. The Packers traded him to the Colts Aug. 26, 2018. He spent some time on the practice squad and the 53-man roster. Pipkins played just one game for the Colts. It took one game before he was waived and claimed off waivers by the Lions.

Detroit released Pipkins after two games. He spent the final six weeks of the season in Cleveland as a member of their practice squad.

The Patriots may need another defensive back

Pipkins has spent several spots in the league before joining the Patriots. Well, his time with the team didn’t last long. Belichick will probably make a few more moves before training camp. Where will Pipkins go? Who is the next player to leave the Patriots?

NFL fans would love to ask so many questions, and the most important question is related to the team’s quarterback position. Belichick will have to choose between Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer. Maybe he will make a few moves until September. The team has to choose between the veterans and their younger player. Let’s see what happens in the next few weeks. The Patriots are set to enter training camp really soon. Things will be much clearer next week. Who will start games for the Pats? Stidham and Newton will have to prove their talent.
