Report: Patriots Rookie QBs Get Horrible News

The New England Patriots have two undrafted free agent qbs at this point. J’Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke were about to compete for the third quarterback spot in New England. However, the arrival of former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton changed everything. Newton agreed to a one-year deal with the Patriots.

Players will see bigger safety precautions and limitations, and this will lead to major changes in the team.

The league proposed a safety plan during the coronavirus pandemic. This plan may eliminate at least three preseason games. If this happens, undrafted free agents won’t really get a chance to make the roster. It will be hard for young quarterbacks on a roster where there already are three veterans. The only thing Smith can hope for is a spot in the practice squad. Smith has an ability to emulate athletic quarterbacks in the league, and the Patriots would definitely love to have him around.

However, the Patriots will deal with roster limitations and salary cap restrictions. This may make things difficult for them to keep Smith around. Lewerke has even worse chances. Without a good training camp or preseason, Lewerke may decide to sit out this season’s activities in order to get a better shot ahead of the 2021 NFL season.

The Patriots qbs aren’t the only players to face challenges in 2020

When it comes to the offensive end, the Patriots have Jeff Thomas, Will Hastings and Isaiah Zuber. They will also have a tough time getting a spot on the roster. The receiving unit is packed with young players.

Jakobi Myers, Gunner Olszewski and other will try to keep their spot behind Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu.

Harry, Myers and Olszewski have spent some time with the Patriots and they know the system. This will be of great help for them in the upcoming season. Will the Patriots give them a chance to show their skills to fans? Maybe these guys will find a home somewhere else.

The New England Patriots will face a big challenge in 2020. They have a few important issues to solve and one of them is the empty spot Tom Brady left in March.
