Bill Belichick Addresses On Possible QB Platoon to Start Patriots Season

The qb platoon may be an option for the New England Patriots in the upcoming season. 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton may get the starting job in September. But, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick likes Jarrett Stidham, too.

Belichick rotates reps between the former Carolina Panthers quarterback, Stidham and Hoyer. Newton doesn’t really know much about the Patriots. Stidham had a year to learn under Tom Brady.

Players won’t have a preseason, and the Patriots have a few options for their quarterback job. Phil Perry of NBC Boston shared some thoughts, and one of his ideas included a platoon. What does Belichick say about this?

“It might (benefit the team),” the Patriots head coach replied. “Look, I always say, I’ll do what I think is best for the team, what gives us the best chance to win. So, whatever that is, I would certainly consider that. If it’s run unbalanced line, or double unbalanced line, or 23 personnel. Whatever it is. If it helps us win, then I would consider anything.”

Is Belichick really into using two quarterbacks?

A QB platoon to work best for the Patriots

The Patriots may use multiple quarterbacks to open the upcoming season before picking one. Belichick uses September games to prepare for the late-season run. Using his quarterbacks looks like a logical possibility.

Mike Giardi from NFL Network joined the Patriots at training camp. He noticed Newton’s throws, and Stidham hasn’t been perfect, too. Is Hoyer the best option for head coach Bill Belichick?

Belichick will try to narrow the rotation so one quarterback can get most of the reps.

“Well, obviously, there’s some point where that’s going to happen,” Belichick said. “But, right now, we want to try to, like I said, give everybody an opportunity to work on, get the basics. And we’re really doing that at all the positions. I mean, everybody’s rotating through and we’re trying to give everybody an opportunity to run the basic plays, get the basic fundamentals down. Yeah, of course at some point, we’ll have to not equalize the reps, I mean, that’s obvious, but we’re not there now.”
