Boomer Esiason Predicts Patriots Starting QB For Week 1

The New England Patriots will have to pick a new qb for their Week 1 game. Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will probably start games for the Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick has three options. He has to choose between Jarrett Stidham, Brian Hoyer, and Newton. Hoyer is the most experienced player and Newton is more talented than Hoyer and Stiddy. But, we can’t really say a thing about Stidham because we know nothing about his upper limit.

The second-year quarterback sustained a hip injury and it seems like he will miss the start of the season. Coach Belichick was confident about the upcoming season and he really liked Stidham and his game. Stidham is injured but he may start games in September.

Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason believes that Stidham will start Week 1 at Gillette Stadium. He appeared on WFAN radio and discussed the quarterback situation in New England.

“They are going to use Cam Newton in some way, shape or form,” Esiason said on Boomer And Gio. “I could see them coming up with a red zone package of plays just to let him get comfortable in the offense. Stidham is going to be the starter.”

Esiason is convinced that the Patriots will use Stidham instead of Newton because of his experience with Josh McDaniels and his offensive scheme. “You don’t understand how hard it is to learn a new offense.”

The Patriots need a talented starting qb in Week 1

Patriots quarterbacks have the right approach to the big battle. Earlier this season, Newton said he won’t try to get too comfortable with the starting position.

“I have so much I need to get better at, so much I need to learn, so much I need to be comfortable with,” the 2015 NFL MVP said. “Throughout this process, that’s the last thing that I’m pretty much worried about.”

Newton may not win the starting position for Week 1. Many fans would love to see more of Newton. Head coach Bill Belichick will probably put him under center at some point. Newton is a talented player and he has the talent New England needs.
