Cam Newton Reacts To Joining Patriots In His First Press Conference In New England

Cam Newton joined the New England Patriots this summer. The Patriots wanted the former Carolina Panthers quarterback and offered him a one-year deal. Newton will get the veteran minimum in his first year with the Patriots. Will this be his last year? Well, Newton likes his new team and he doesn’t even think of getting more money.

Believe it or not, Newton is still awed when he arrives at Gillette Stadium for practice.

“I’m still constantly — I don’t want to say disbelief at this particular point in time, but it’s just a surreal moment,” Newton said. “Nobody really knows how excited I am just to be a part of this organization in many (more) ways than one. Just following up such a powerful dynasty that has enriched so much prestige. A lineage of success.”

The Patriots have yet to make a decision on their starting quarterback. Tom Brady is gone and head coach Bill Belichick will have to make a decision. Will Newton replace the six-time Super Bowl champion? Second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is also here. Brian Hoyer has great experience, too. The next starting quarterback will have to work under huge pressure. Replacing Brady won’t be easy at all.

“A lot of people would hide from the notion to do certain things, but for me, man, I think this opportunity is something that I wake up pinching myself every day,” Newton said. “It’s so surreal. Coming down 1 Patriot Place each and every day and seeing the whole ambiance. Not only that, but seeing so much support around the city of Boston and Foxborough, it’s just such a great environment. For not only myself, but players included. It’s crazy.”

Cam Newton will compete for the starting job in New England

Newton will be working with the best coach in the NFL. Although he is nothing like Coach B, there’s a really big chance for them to develop a strong relationship.

“There’s a perception, but at the end of the day it’s football,” Newton said. “I’ve loved it ever since I’ve been here. I’ve been here going on a week now. You hear rumors about certain things but once you finally get settled on with things like that, none of that really matters. It’s just about finding a way to prove your worth on a team.”

Newton will have to try really hard in training camp. The veteran will have to compete with Stidham for the starting position.
