Jarrett Stidham Reveals How He Felt When Patriots Signed Cam Newton

The New England Patriots have seen a lot of changes so far. Tom Brady parted ways with the Pats after twenty years to sign a deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots didn’t have too many options. Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t select a quarterback in the three rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. This left him somewhere in the middle between second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer. But, the Patriot signed Cam Newton this summer and this changed everything. Will Jarrett Stidham win the spot over Cam Newton?

Stidham was the next in line to go under center. The signing of Newton in June changed the situation and three quarterbacks will compete for the starting job in September.

Stiddy is a fourth-round pick out of Auburn. He had a press conference on Friday and one of the questions involved his opinion on the current situation in Foxboro. What was the first thing that popped in his head after the Patriots announced the arrival of Newton? Well, Stidham is not afraid of competition. The Patriots will enter their first season without TB12. A lot of things will be different now, including the quarterback No.1.

“I was actually back in Texas visiting some family when everything happened,” Stidham said. “Honestly, I was excited. What a great opportunity to compete with another great player — compete with Hoy and Cam. I was actually really excited for the opportunity ahead.”

Jarrett Stidham will join forces with Cam Newton

The second-year quarterback said he’ll help Newton learn the offense. They have so much to learn right now. The Patriots’ offense struggled in 2019, and hopefully, this will change in the upcoming season.

We’re all in that room together and we’re all there to help each other,” Stidham said. “That is what it is all about.”

The quarterback competition will make the best headlines this summer. Things may take a different turn in training camp, and the Patriots have to make the best decision. Is Stidham a better option than Newton? Belichick knows what’s best for his dynasty. His next starting quarterback will have to keep the dynasty alive and strong.
