Julian Edelman Praises Cam Newton for His Work Ethic and Mindset

Patriots wideout Julian Edelman had words of praise for quarterback Cam Newton and his work ethic. The former Carolina Panthers quarterback left a really good first impression on the team. What does Edelman say about his new teammate?

“When you first meet him, just his stature,” he told Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. “The dude is large, put together well and he’s got great energy. He’s got a great energy about himself. I was really impressed with his work ethic and his mindset.”

Newton agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.75 million in July after the Panthers cut him in March. This deal has a maximum value of $7.5 million with incentives based on team and individual performance. That’s what Field Yates from ESPN reported recently. To get all the money, Newton will have to carry the Patriots to the top. His deal is packed with incentives.

Cam Newton has excellent work ethic

Newton will compete with second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham and veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer. The veteran has to prove he is healthy after sustaining injuries in the final two seasons. Newton had to undergo a shoulder injury after the 2018 season. The quarterback played two games last year before sustaining a foot injury. Newton underwent a surgery in December to fix the problem.

Patriots and other NFL teams won’t have preseason games and this makes things difficult for Newton. The NFL cancelled the preseason due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Patriots defensive tackle Lawrence Guy said he is happy to see how Newton performs once the team “ramps up its training camp practices.”

“The dynamic he brings to the locker room and everybody embracing him is the best part. We’ve got a unique team here,” he said. “Once he came in, he fit right in. I think Hoy and Stidham have welcomed him with open arms. They’re coming onto the field and you hear them talk and you see them throwing different plays and aspects out.”

Stidham had a 102.5 passer rating with four touchdowns and one interception across 90 attempts in the 2019 preseason. He may keep the inside track thanks to his great experience with the offense.
