Lakers Reveal Rajon Rondo Status For Game 3 vs Blazers

The Los Angeles Lakers will get an extra pair of hands in Game 3 of the series. According to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, Rajon Rondo will be active in the game vs Portland Trail Blazers.

The veteran player fractured his right thumb in the team’s second practice inside the Orlando bubble July 12. Rondo has been out for six weeks. He had to undergo surgery to fix his thumb. His recovery process was great and it looks like Rondo is ready to join his teammates.

Rondo practiced for the first time Monday after leaving Orlando to have a surgery and repair his thumb July 15. Analysts expected him to return to full basketball game between 6-8 games.

The four-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion was averaging 7.1 points, three rebounds and five assists in 20.5 minutes per game with the Lakers prior to the NBA hiatus. He did that while shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 65.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Rajon Rondo to join the Lakers vs Blazers challenge

The Lakers have the top seed in the West and they are playing Portland in the first series. Playoff Blazers are dangerous and the Lakers learned it the hard way. Game 1 wasn’t great and the team struggled shooting. Although their shooting didn’t improve too much, the Lakers played a much better game in Game 2.

LA will definitely need another playmaker, shot creator and defender in the series against the Blazers. Having Rondo back will motivate players to try even harder. The Lakers didn’t look like the No. 1 seed in Game 1 of the series and it’s time to change that.

Rondo may not be playing his best basketball, but he is definitely an elite player. He has great playoff experience and the Lakers need that on the floor in Orlando. Rondo, LeBron James, JaVale McGee, Danny Green and Quinn Cook have made the finals in their careers. Rondo won his ring with the Boston Celtics in 2008. It was a big win over LA, and Rondo also made the Finals in 2010.
