LeBron James Recalls The Moment When he Saw 24-8 Score on Kobe Bryant Day

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant were always good friends. Kobe’s death hit LeBron hard, even harder than for most people. The world was shocked to hear about the death on January 26th, 2020. He was such an icon for so many people. But the Los Angeles Lakers had to focus on the rest of the season, no matter how hard it was.

For LeBron James, coming onto the court on Aug. 24 was a bit different than any other usual day. And it was probably more difficult than a typical game as well.

The Lakers held “Kobe Bryant Day” on yesterday. The reason this date was chosen is because that features the two jersey numbers (8 and 24) that Kobe wore during his career. LeBron said after the game that this was a game that they would “always remember.”

During last night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers the Lakers came onto the court with their “Black Mamba” uniform. It was designed by Kobe and Nike in 2017 and is no infamous for its meaning.

The jerseys also have a patch with a heart with a No. 2 inside. This is in honor of Bryant’s late daughter, Gianna. She wore the number at the Mamba Sports Academy.

Early on in the game, there was a time when the score was 24-8.

“When I looked up and saw we were up 24-8, I was like, okay, he’s here in the building,” James said after the game.

“It’s a beautiful, beautiful night for our franchise and something we will always remember — this moment,” he added.

“[I am] extremely blessed and honored to be able to play on 8/24 and continue to remember Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant and all the fallen people that were a part of that tragic incident,” he shared.

“To go out there one day removed from his birthday and then his day of 8/24, to be able to have a game on this day, the stars aligned.”
