Patriots Provide Encouraging Update On WR Mohamed Sanu

The New England Patriots added Mohamed Sanu to the PUP list, but his sting is now over. Field Yates from ESPN reported that the veteran wideout has passed his physical Tuesday and was activated. The Pats placed Sanu on the Physically Unable to Perform list on Sunday afternoon.

Sanu sprained his ankle last November and had to undergo an offseason surgery. According to multiple sources, Sanu is really motivated to make a better second impression than first with the Patriots.

During his interview with Mike Reiss from ESPN, Sanu’s trainer Hilton Alexander said the veteran wideout is “faster than he’s ever been,” adding that “he is training like he has something to prove, like this is Year 1 in this league and he has to make his name known.”

The Patriots will get the best of Mohamed Sanu

In the final six games of the season, Sanu wasn’t able to catch more than three passes. The veteran wideout was a non-factor in the team’s wild card loss to the Titans. Sanu hauled in one grab for 11 yards. In other words, Sanu wasn’t the upgrade the Patriots thought they were getting.

That’s Sanu’s biggest motivation.

“I think he knows he was a shell of himself toward the end of the season,” Alexander told Reiss. “He wasn’t in the position where he could do the best he could and be able to offer that Mohamed Sanu that everybody has grown to love all those years in Cinci (2012-15) and Atlanta (2016-2018). I know the fans didn’t get a chance to see 100% Mohamed Sanu. I promise you, that is a huge chip on his shoulder now.”

Sanu will compete on the wideout depth chart that’s really shaky after Julian Edelman. Sanu, N’Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, Damiere Byrd, Quincy Adeboyejo, Jeff Thomas and Will Hastings will battle for reps in training camp.

Well, the Patriots got Sanu for a reason and he won’t disappoint the team. It’s an incredible season for everyone and Sanu is ready for the challenge. He was catching passes from Tom Brady in 2019 and the Patriots will now play with another quarterback. It will be either Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham.
