Patriots Sign Ex-Chiefs NT – Assign Him Trey Flowers Old Number

The New England Patriots are still rebuilding their roster. They made some cuts and signings in the past few months. This time the Patriots sign former Kansas City Chiefs NT Xavier Williams and gave him Trey Flowers’ uniform number

The Patriots hosted Williams and a few others earlier in the week. The official signing happened on Saturday.

New England and every other NFL team will try to add depth ahead of the uptoming season. 2020 will be much different than any other season. There will be no preseason and teams have to approach September differently. The clock is ticking and everyone has to do their job.

New England worked on the important NT position. It’s one of the priorities at the moment as it stops the run. Williams is a run-stuffer who can go right behind newly-acquired Beau Allen and Adam Butler to give the Patriots a presence u front. Williams doesn’t have the best career in the NFL, but he is still young and Belichick sees him as a nice fit.

The Patriots sign NT for a reason

That’s right. Williams did enough to impress head coach Bill Belichick during the tryout.

Williams came in and Darius Kilgo had to go for the third time. Well, that’s how things rol in the NFL. Roster cuts aren’t comfortable. To make things even more bitter, Williams got Kilgo’s spot and his No.98 uniform. It’s the uniform the two-time Super Bowl champion had during his tenure with the Patriots.

Williams will have to work hard for a spot on the 53-man roster. He is behind Allen and Butler for now, but things can easily change. Head coach Belichick likes to play and he may give Williams a bigger responsibility if he finds it necessary.

The Patriots will enter the 2020 season with a completely different toster. They will be playing with a new quarterback and some of the key players are out too. Belichick is an optimist and so are the players on the Patriots roster. It’s a big season full of challenges.
