Report: Giants Primed to Make Trade Push for Patriots Cornerback

Cornerback Sam Beal opted out of the upcoming season. The New York Giants have a major obstacle to solve right now. Beal was about to get the starting job in 2020. DeAndre Baker’s future is uncertain due to his legal issues. Is there any chance for Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson to join the organization before the start of the regular season?

PFF ranks Jackson first in the NFL in completion percentage allowed since entering the NFL in 2017. This includes postseasons too. According to analysts, Jackson is the Patriots’ Most Underrated Player. He has a 49.6 completion percentage allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Does this make him a better option than Gilmore? Let’s not forget that Gilmore is considered the best cornerback in the NFL.

The Patriots may trade the talented cornerback

Jackson is one of the best corners in football in terms of defending the deep ball. He was targeted 29 times on passes of 20 or more yards down the field. On these targets, Jackson allowed three receptions, intercepted six passes and added in 10 pass breakups.

The talented player finished 2019 tied for the second-most interceptions in the NFL. He had six starts that year.

Jackson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent. His size and age make him a good fit for the Giants. New York has a few undersized defensive backs to play the slot. Darnay Holmes and Julian Love are part of this group.

Logan Ryan is also a fit for the Giants. He plays his best football from the slot, and the team may use his talents really well.

Jackson measures at 6-foot-1 inches and 200 pounds. He can easily go toe-to-toe with big outside receivers “on a week in, week out basis.” He is 24 and may not help the Giants in the short-term. But Jackson has a big chance to become a mainstay in the Giants’ secondary in the next few seasons. Ryan is talented by the will soon turn 30.

Jackson is also connected to the Giants coaching staff. He worked with Joe Judge and Brett Bielema. This gives him additional advantages.
