Report: New England Patriots Made Decision On Tight End Jordan Leggett

The Patriots had four open spots on the 80-man roster. Eight players opted out of the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns, which left the Patriots with a lot of empty positions. Tight end Jordan Leggett was also in talks for signing.

However, according to a recent report, New England have decided not to sign him.

The ex-New York Jet had to pass his physical and COVID-19 testing in order to proceed the signing process. The exact reason for the about-face was not specified.

With tight end Jordan Leggett out of the picture, the Patriots now have one open spot on their 80-man roster and a lack of experience at that position. They filled the four spots with rookies Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Jake Burt and Rashod Berry. The fifth, 24-year-old Ryan Izzo, has appeared in just six NFL games.

Patriots will now have to choose between available free agent tight ends Delanie Walker, Jeff Heuerman, Ed Dickson, Geoff Swaim, Luke Stocker, Ben Braunecker, Ben Koyack and Clive Walford. Reportedly, Walker has the biggest chance. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler and the most accomplished player in that group.

Running back Lamar Miller, defensive tackle Darius Kilgo and center Tyler Gauthier are also doing physicals and COVID tests. Those signings, as well as their results are not yet official.

The Patriots will enter a challenging season and they will play without a few top contributors. Let’s see how will Bill Belichick and his team handle the upcoming pressure. It’s an important season for the head coach and his players. The rookies have a big bite to swallow.
