Report: Patriots Host Tight End & D-Tackle For Free Agent Visits

The New England Patriots will probably make a few more changes ahead of the 2020 NFL season. The team will have to find a replacement for eight players who have decided to opt-out of the regular season. Matt LaCosse is out which means the Patriots will have to go after a tight end.

Well, head coach Bill Belichick is not wasting his time. The Patriots have hosted former New York Jets tight end Jordan Leggett for a free agent visit. The information was confirmed by Mike Reiss from ESPN.

Leggett has stacked 14 catches for 114 yards and one touchdown in the past few seasons. He is a fifth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. However, Leggett was an excellent pass-catcher at Clemson. He had 86 receptions for 1,261 yards and 15 scores in the final two collegiate seasons.

Leggett measures at 6 feet 5 inches and 258 pounds. He was considered a “move” tight end in 2017. A knee injury put an end to his rookie campaign. The Jets cut him after the second season in New York. In 2019, Leggett joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but didn’t see any action.
LaCosse opted out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. The tight end unit consists of four rookie players and third-year pro Ryan Izzo. Third-round picks Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene will have great chances to make the roster. Where does this leave undrafted free agents Jake Burt and Rashod Berry? Izzo played just six games with the Patriots.

The Patriots had another player join the tight end for a visit

Free agent defensive tackle Darius Kilgo also joined the Patriots for a visit as confirmed by Reiss.

Kilgo was part of Belichick’s practice squad in 2016. He was a member of the Patriots family in the 2017 preseason. Matt Patricia and the Detroit Lions gave him a chance last offseason, but Kilgo spent the season on injured reserve.

New England enters Friday with five empty spots on the 80-man roster. How will the team solve this problem? Will they bring in a lot of new players? Head coach Belichick has a plan and he has yet to make a move.
