Report: Patriots Re-Sign Another Undrafted Receiver

The New England Patriots keep adding depth to the wide receiver unit. The Patriots added another undrafted player to their roster. Head coach Bill Belichick decided to bring back UDFA wide receiver Isaiah Zuber. The information was first confirmed by Mike Reiss from ESPN. New England announced the signing.

This announcement came four days after veteran wide receiver Marqise Lee decided to opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to coronavirus pandemic. Eight Patriots players won’t join the team in September, including Patrick Chung and a few other veterans.

Zuber initially signed a deal with the Patriots after the 2020 NFL Draft. He was offered $100,000 in guaranteed money and ties for third-most among Pats UDFAs. The Patriots released Zuber last month as they had to trim the roster from 90 players to 80.

New England Patriots need the talented receiver

The 23-year-old played three years at Kansas State and played at Mississippi State throughout his final college season. The 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver left college with 127 career receptions for 1,321 yards and 11 touchdown receptions. Both numbers are top-10 marks in school history. In his senior year in 2019, Zuber played in 13 games with three starts at Mississippi State and was able to catch 14 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns.

Zuber joins former Auburn receiver Will Hastings as the second undrafted free agent at the wide receiver position to re-join the Pats after being cut. Former Miami wideout Jeff Thomas is still on the roster. New England has also re-signed undrafted quarterback Brian Lewerke.

Veteran wideout Mohamed Sanu spent a short time on the physically unable to perform list. The team activated him on Tuesday. The Patriots receiving unit is packed with talent. Zuber will join Sanu, Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, Damiere Byrd, Quincy Adeboyejo, Devin Ross, Jeff Thomas, and Will Hastings.

The Patriots have released a video of the team’s return to practice fields in Foxboro. This is a great sign about the readiness players have for the upcoming season. They are about to face a big challenge.
