Report: Patriots Sign Rookie DT, Former Sony Michel College Teammate

The Patriots have signed another rookie. The New England Patriots are making some waves in the off season. They are doing just about everything they can in order to get back on track after a disappointing season last year. It looks like they are continuing to sign just about any free agent that they think will help them get back to their winning ways.

The New England Patriots adding and getting rid of as many players as possible during training camp. On Monday, they decided to sign former Georgia DT Michael Barnett.

The new DT went undrafted after his senior season with Georgia. However, he does have a lot of versatility as well as some experience against some of the best players in the country going through the SEC.

They are obviously trying to add as many people as possible and it is not slowing down any time soon. It is pretty normal. However, it does also seem to be impacted on this unusual training camp that the players are going through. Some are suggesting it could impact the amount of injuries.

While the NFL has had great fortune with COVID-19 testing to this point, the chance of losing a player to a positive test is still there. Because of that, every team will continue to take a look at players who remotely fit their scheme.

The Patriots are still trying to figure out who is going to be their quarterback in this coming season. It seems like a pretty good competition so far, with Cam Newton being the favorite.

Head coach Bill Belichick had some good things to say about the quarterback race.

“He’s an extremely hard-working player,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said. “First-guy in, last-one out type of guy. He’s really studied hard and has spent a lot of extra time trying to learn our offense, our communication, our calls, nomenclature and so forth. I’ve been very impressed with that. He’s done a good job of picking it up. He’s a very skilled athlete. We’re just working through it day by day. We have a long way to go.

“We’ve got a very competitive competition at a very competitive position at the quarterback spot. It will be interesting to see how everybody does.”
