Bill Belichick Had Little To Say About Patriots’ Clock Management vs Seahawks

The New England Patriots lost Week 2 to the Seattle Seahawks. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick didn’t really say much following the 35-30 loss in the game vs the Seahawks. Why did players let 16 seconds wind down after veteran wide receiver Julian Edelman snatched an 18-yard pass from quarterback Cam Newton to put his teammates on Seattle’s 13-yard line down five points with just 29 seconds remaining and a timeout?

Belichick didn’t have an answer.

“Seattle took a timeout,” Belichick said. “I mean, what are you talking about?”

Patriots players hurried to the line and snapped the football with 13 seconds remaining of the game. Their starting quarterback threw an incompletion high and through Edelman’s hands. The Seahawks used this and took a timeout.

“Yeah, well,” the Patriots head coach said and then there was a 15-second silence treatment.

That’s it. That was Belichick’s response. Pretty classy, right?

New England’s next snap happened with nine seconds left on the clock. Newton completed a 12-yard pass to wideout N’Keal Harry and opponents tackled him inbounds.

The Patriots had their final timeout with three seconds remaining. The quarterback lost a yard on a keeper, and his team lost the control. It was over.

“We had one play to score, and we tried to go with what we thought was our best play,” Belichick said. “What else is there to think about?”

New England was great in short-yardage situations near the goal line. They converted for scores on two 1-yard runs by Newton and another 1-yard passing touchdown to fullback Jakob Johnson.

Fans may be questioning the Patriots’ clock management at the end of the game. Well, the team didn’t really have a chance to win as they were trailing by 12 points with two minutes left in the game.

Newton would love to have his incompletion to Jules and his run at the end of Week 2 back. We can’t turn back time, right?

Seattle made a good play,” Belichick said. “I give them credit. They deserved to win.”

Seattle is 2-0 on the season and the Patriots have 1-1 record.
