Cam Newton Addresses the Elephant in the Room About the Patriots

Cam Newton is ready for a huge year with the Patriots. The New England Patriots have been trying to get back on track after a pretty back 2019 season. Most people think that the 2020 season will be a big bounce back year for the boys in blue. A lot of this success will have to do with how the quarterback play is. As we know by know, Tom Brady left for Tampa Bay this off season.

This left a massive hole where a legend used to be. To fill that hole, the Patriots have signed former NFL MVP Cam Newton, who could be a huge pick up. But it is not set whether which side of him will come out to play. He is not officially the starter for week 1 on September 13th.

Head coach Bill Belichick has already come out and said that he was very impressed by Newton’s work ethic.

Cam Newton Addresses the Elephant in the Room About the Patriots

“I can see why he had the kind of success he had at Auburn and at Carolina,” Belichick said. “In talking to people that were with him there, the things that they said about him at Auburn and at Carolina from a decade ago or two, three years ago, or even last year, it was all the same, and it showed up here. He’s an extremely hard worker. Nobody works harder than Cam does. He’s here early. He stays late and he works very hard.”

But now Cam Newton himself has had to come out about some things that people are saying about him. They are questioning him as a black quarterback.

“Honestly? We going honest? It is because I’m a Black athlete, a quarterback, that for a long time, I’ve been unapologetic. It’s because I have carried myself in a way that the media hasn’t gave me my just due. But yet at the same time, I do understand that and I don’t have no type of resentment toward that. I embrace who I am, I embrace the moment. I live in the moment. One of the quotes I live by is carpe diem.”
