Colin Cowherd Gives Cam Newton This Letter Grade For His Patriots Debut

Colin Cowherd has had some interesting grade on Cam Newton. The New England Patriots have been busy over this year’s off season trying to fill the holes that were all over the offense and defense. It seemed that especially the offense was struggling in 2019 and the play on the field definitely should that. It was pretty obviously that they were not at the level of play they were used to.

Cam Newton definitely helped with that. Newton is a former NFL MVP that definitely has some weapons. But his play in past years was questionable. It was evident that he would have quite a few things to work on before the start of the 2020 season. However, if his play on the field against the Miami Dolphins was any indication, he is playing much better.

This is not a surprise. Bill Belichick was very aware of his ability in the off season. He talked about what he saw from Newton.

“We wanted to add competition,” Belichick said. “We always try to add competition to our team, and we felt like we’d be able to do that. He was very open to talking about and working with our situation. We were able to work things out. We’ll just take it day by day and see how it goes. I’m glad we have him.

“It’s been fun to work with him. He’s a very talented player with a unique skillset. Again, we’ll see where it all goes, but he’s got a lot to work with.”

But some people were not impressed. Colin Cowherd was one of those people. He recently talked about Newton’s first game.

“I mean, they didn’t ask a ton of him through the air. Folks, he just got there,” Cowherd said on his show. “Fifteen of 19, led the Patriots in rushing. This was one of my concerns. This is not an easy offense. This is a complex offense with a lot of variables, a lot of looks, a lot of sets, a lot of movement and he figured it out quick. By the way, that ‘Jarrett Stidham is the next blabbity blabbity’ — that thing is over, right? What happened to that thing? That was the dumbest story of the half offseason.”

What do you think about what he had to say?
