Josh McDaniels Explains One ‘Huge Focus’ For Team’s Offense

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick decided to let veteran quarterback Cam Newton lead the offense in 2020. There have been so many predictions regarding his success with the Patriots, and Newton is here to blast his doubters. The 2015 NFL MVP had an incredible performance in Week 1 and Week 2, and Patriots really like his style. Many NFL general managers made a mistake by letting him go. Newton spent too much time on the open market and the Patriots were the only team to make an offer. Josh McDaniels enjoys working with him on the offense.

This leads us all the way to the “non-Newton Patriots running game.” In the road game against Seattle, Patriots players ran for 67 yards on 25 carries. If you take the starting quarterback out of the equation, you will be left with 20 yards on 14 catches. Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead and J.J. Taylor combined to get this number.

Josh McDaniels to take a different shot at the offense

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels spoke to media members Tuesday, revealing that the running game is a “huge focus” for the next few games.

“Certainly, Seattle deserves credit for the way they played and some of the things they did to try and disrupt our ability to run it effectively,” McDaniels said. “And then there’s certain things that, fundamentally, we can work on to improve to try to run the football better. Certainly, we got to do that better than we did the other night, I think everybody knows that. We weren’t as productive as we want to be each week.

That will be a huge focus for us this week. Something we need to improve on. There’s a lot of areas we need to improve quickly, and that’s what this time of the year is usually about.”

Las Vegas had allowed 120 rushing yards by Sunday’s match. They confronted Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers and Alvin Kamara from the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders have allowed 4.9 yards per carry with a combine four rushing touchdowns.

New England will have to increase the productivity for the offense to gain more success on Sunday.
