Josh McDaniels Talked Similarities and Differences Between Tom Brady and Cam Newton

The New England Patriots are led by veteran quarterback Cam Newton. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had great words for the brilliant Cam Newton.

McDaniels had to come up with some changes regarding his gameplan. He has been working with quarterback Tom Brady throughout his entire career. Newton is a completely different quarterback, and McDaniels has to adjust his plan to Newton’s running game.

McDaniels’ work with Newton is more than impressive. New England has a 2-1 start of the regular season. They won games even when Newton had his bad days.

When asked about his success with the 2015 NFL MVP, McDaniels provided a precise answer.

“Cam’s been very consistent since I first met him,” the offensive coordinator said in a Tuesday press conference. “He loves the game of football. He also loves working really hard.”

When it comes to specific play-calling, there’s a massive difference between Newton and Brady.

“It’s different,” McDaniels said. “There’s certainly a huge chunk of what we’ve been able to try and do in the past that we continue to try and do. You take certain strengths of each player, and in this particular case, we’re talking about the quarterback. You take the strengths of the players that you have and you try to put them in the positions to be successful that they have the most confidence in.

“Whether it is some version of an adjustment in the running game, some ability to use his legs or his size and strength, we’ve tried to do some of all of that. At the same time, the most important thing for us and for Cam is to run the offense.”

Josh McDaniels likes working with Cam Newton

McDaniels and Newton will confront the defending Super Bowl Champions on Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs will have New England at their stadium. Many analysts would agree that this is the toughest game of the season. Kansas City is packed with talent and their game is pretty strong. But, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has great expectations from his teammates, too.

Newton is a good fit for the Patriots, and he has proven doubters wrong. New England was the only team to offer him a deal this offseason. Some teams probably regret their decision to ignore Newton. He was a free agent for a few months, and no one even contacted him. New England didn’t have a lot of cap space, and Newton agreed to sign a one-year deal worth one million.
