Julian Edelman Reacts to Patriots Naming Cam Newton as Captain

Cam Newton has officially been named as a captain for the New England Patriots. The Patriots have been very busy this off season. They are trying to pick up as many free agents as possible after a disappointing 2019 season. They went 12-4 last year but it was a pretty mediocre showing.

Tom Brady and the offense failed to get it going much at all last year which is one of the reasons why the Patriots are trying so hard to fill the holes that they have. Then, their legendary quarterback Tom Brady decided to walk. He took his talents to Tampa Bay in a shocking move.

This left the biggest hole of all. Then comes former NFL MVP Cam Newton. He has officially taken the reigns of the offense after being named the starter earlier this week. But that is not all. Now, Newton is officially one of the captains.

Julian Edelman Reacts to Patriots Naming Cam Newton as Captain

Julian Edelman was asked about his thoughts on this and his reaction could surprise you.

“It says a lot,” he said.

“Cam came in with an energy. He came in with a purpose. He came in as a natural leader and that’s what you want to see at that position,” Edelman said. “It’s one of those things where you’re excited for it because now we can get it going.”

The Patriots should be in good hands this season. From the sounds of it, Newton has been very impressive during training camp. Coach Bill Belichick talked about what he has seen from Newton.

“Cam’s a hard-working kid. He really is. He’s worked very hard, I’d say, as all of our players have.

“I’d say that certainly for all the quarterbacks, at that position, those guys have been locked in, focused and confident in what they’re able to do and the information they have to give to the team — play-calling, adjustments, audibles, protection adjustments, things like that. That’s all going pretty well.”

Let’s hope that Newton is as good as people think he is.
