Michael Jordan Fax Influenced How LeBron James Announced Decision To Sign With Lakers

LeBron James has always praised the success of Michael Jordan and he even followed his example when announcing his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. MJ was LeBron’s childhood idol.

ESPN released a 10-part documentary series “The Last Dance” giving everyone a closer look inside Jordan’s best moments in his final NBA season.

Jordan decided to return to the game following his short stint with the Minor League Baseball.  The Bulls legend delivered a short and important message. It was a big announcement and Jordan used just 2 words.

LeBron made a big splash with The Decision in 2010. He left the Cleveland Cavaliers to join the Miami Heat. It was a bold move and Cavs fans didn’t like any of it. They burned his jerseys and called him names.

LeBron James took a different approach with the Los Angeles Lakers

Things changed when LeBron decided to leave the Cavaliers for the second time in his career to play with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was quiet. The more subdued delivery was met with a lower dose of criticism.

“Fun fact: The fax informed the manner in which LeBron James announced his decision to play for the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2018, according to sources. After the TV spectacle that backfired with ‘The Decision’ in 2010, when James went to Miami, and the extreme course correction that followed with a first-person essay as told to Sports Illustrated in 2014, when he went back to Cleveland, James’ camp wanted something clean and simple in 2018.”

This only proves that the actions taken in making an announcement play a big role on how the public receives the decision. Jordan and LeBron made their decisions under different circumstances, but the Bulls legend definitely set a new precedent when it comes to players announcing their big career moves.

LeBron and Jordan joined forces last week to save the NBA playoffs. Players wanted to boycott games to deliver a message following the shooting of Jacob Blake. The playoffs resumed and LA is back to winning games. LeBron and his teammates will enter the second round on Friday.
