New England Patriots Finally Admit They Made a Mistake

It sounds like the New England Patriots are finally ready to admit that they made a mistake. The Patriots have been trying to get back on track during the off season. This is likely even more of a goal due to the season they had last year. 2019 was not a fun season for the Patriots at all. They failed to get much of anything done at all. The offense was especially lacking.

After the season, their 20 year quarterback Tom Brady decided to take his talents to Tampa Bay. For the most part, it seems like this was a pretty mutual decision on both sides. Brady was not very good last year and they were both looking for a change.

Due to Brady’s decision to leave, the Patriots decided to sign free agent Cam Newton. Yesterday, they announced that Newton would officially be the starter for game 1 on September 13th.

Eight players on the Patriots have also decided to sit out for the season. This has definitely been a very interesting off season filled with change. Brady admitted that he got an idea before starting last season that it might be his final year.

“I don’t think there was a final, final decision until it happened,” Brady said back in April. “But I probably knew before the start of last season that it was my last year. I knew that it was just — our time was coming to an end.”

The team now has admitted a mistake in signing Mohamed Sanu and giving up a second round pick for him. He has now been released and they get nothing out of it. The Patriots are definitely looking for some big playmakers on the offensive side of the ball.

Cam Newton should be able to make some of those plays. It sounds like Bill Belichick has been pretty impressed by what he has seen from Newton.

“I can see why he had the kind of success he had at Auburn and Carolina,” Belichick said. “Talking to people who were with him there, the things they said about him at Auburn and at Carolina from a decade ago or two to three years ago or even last year, it’s all the same and it showed up here. He’s an extremely hard worker. Nobody works harder than Cam does. He’s here early, he stays late, and he works very hard.”
