NFL Writer Makes Case For Cam Newton, New England Patriots To Reach Super Bowl LV

It has been a very long time since the odds were pretty much against the New England Patriots to reach the Super Bowl. The Patriots have always been one of the best teams in the league. For decades, they have been on the top of the league. Most people, going into the season, would agree that the Patriots have a shot at getting to the Super Bowl.

This off season has been pretty crazy for the Patriots. Obviously, we all remember Tom Brady leaving for Tampa Bay this off season. But that was not the only hole that was left this off season. There also were some holes left in the coaching staff. One of those was offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia. Also, 8 players have already opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID concerns.

Now, they will have to get through this season will all of these things in mind. Also, the regular season is very tough for the Patriots this season. All in all, it seems like the Patriots are considered a long shot for the Super Bowl LV.

But Bill Barnwell believes there is a way for them to get there.

Here is what he had to say from ESPN.com:

“The path forward isn’t as clear for the Patriots. Can they still rely on the league’s top-ranked defense from 2019? The league’s deepest cornerback depth chart and Devin McCourty all return, but the front seven is a mess. They have lost six of their top 11 defenders by snap count from a year ago, and while I’d trust Bill Belichick’s ability to coach in a weird season more than anybody else’s, there’s going to be some rebuilding time here. Stephon Gilmore and the secondary also aren’t going to post an interception rate of nearly 5% this season.”

It sounds like it could be possible, but still very unlikely. With Bill Belichick at the helm, anything seems possible though.

Do you think that the Patriots could make it to the Super Bowl this year?
