Patriots Cut Lineman From Practice Squad, Work Out Quarterback, Receiver

The New England Patriots planned to make a few more roster moves ahead of the season opener. This time the Patriots cut a lineman from the practice squad. Corey Levin is out of the Patriots practise squad. His release put an end to his brief stay. Levin signed Wednesday after spending his summer with the Chicago Bears.

New England has an open practice squad slot. There’s also an empty spot on the 53-man roster. The Patriots placed offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste on injured reserve Thursday.

Head coach Bill Belichick and his team hosted two free agents for tryouts Friday as confirmed by Mike Reiss from ESPN. The team brought quarterback Jacob Dolegala and wide receiver Juwann Winfree for practice.

Dolegala spent 2019 on the Cincinnati Bengals’ active roster. However, he didn’t see any action throughout the season. He measures at 6 foot 7, and his great numbers actually sent him to New England. In the 2019 preseason, the Central Connecticut State product had good stats. He completed 37 of 53 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions as an undrafted rookie. The Bengals waived him last Sunday during the final roster trimming.

Winfree was a sixth-round pick for the Denver Broncos in 2019. He saw 14 snaps on offense and 49 on special teams in three games in 2019 before being placed on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.

The wide receiver measures at 6 feet 3, 215 pounds. He measured a shade over 6-1 at the pre-draft pro day. The talented player ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, 6.97-second three-cone drill and 4.5-second short shuttle.

The 24-year-old suffered serious injuries. Winfree missed most of training camp due to a groin issue. He missed his sophomore campaign in Colorado due to a torn ACL. The team released him in 2015.

New England has four wide receivers on practice squad. Kristian Wilkerson and Mason Kinsey didn’t join the team in training camp. Devin Ross and Isaiah Zuber saw action.

The Pats will have their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
