Report: New England Patriots Cut Pro Bowl Running Back

The New England Patriots cut a Pro Bowl running back ahead of the Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins. It was a big move for the Patriots organization, but some analysts saw it coming.

New England entered Saturday with a pack backfield. Lamar Miller, Sony Michel, James White, Damien Harris and Rex Burkhead suited up for the practice session. Well, one of them had to go.

Miller signed with the Patriots prior to the 2020 preseason camp. However, he didn’t really have a chance to make the roster. It was more than obvious that Miller struggled. New England trimmed the roster to 53 players and the Pro Bowl running back didn’t make the cut.

New England Patriots are satisfied with their running back unit

The former Texans running back has to find a new home ahead of the upcoming season. His path will be full of struggles. NFL teams don’t really sign big names at the beginning of regular seasons.

Miller started his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2012. He played four years with the Dolphins and then signed with the Houston Texans. In his first seven years, the running back rushed for 5,864 yards and 32 touchdowns. Miller was able to catch 209 passes for 1,565 yards and eight scores.

The running back tore his ACL ahead of 2019 season. This injury put an end to his season before it even started. Miller tried to make a comeback with the Patriots, but now he has to sign with another team. Most NFL teams would be interested in signing the Pro Bowl back. But the time is tight.

The Patriots are fine with their running back squad. The team has high expectations from Sony Michel and the other players. head coach Bill Belichick is working on the roster and he has made a few cuts. Veteran wideout Mohamed Sanu is out too. The Patriots had to cut him and he will also have to find a new home. Who is the next to go? Belichick has a few ideas and he won’t give up before making the perfect active roster.
