The 2019 season was a very disappointing year for Patriots fans. The failed to do much of anything, especially on offense. But they want to do what they can to get the team where they need to be.

In order to get back on track, the Patriots are eyeing all sorts of free agents during the 2020 off season. We have already seen one huge name sign with the Patriots. Former league MVP Cam Newton signed to a one year deal after choosing the Patriots. Most believe that he will be the starter this year.

Now there is yet another big time free agent that could be making his way to Foxborough.

Report: Patriots Front-Runner To Land Free-Agent Running Back

Apparently, the Patriots are one of the favorites to get a big name running back right before the season.

Fournette was recently cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars after they were unable to trade him away. He was easily one of the biggest name running backs to come out of LSU back in 2017. In the 3 years that he has been in the NFL, he has averaged 4 yards per carry. This is okay but not amazing by any standards.

In the 3 seasons he has been in the NFL, he has a total of 2,631 yards. He is also coming off a 1000 yard season last year. He could be a huge pick up for the Patriots and would help fill up their back field.

Cam Newton is also a player that the Patriots were able to pick up. Coach Belichick recently talked about what he thinks of Newton so far.

“He’s an extremely hard worker,” Belichick added. “Nobody works harder than Cam does. He’s here early, he stays late and he works very hard. Some players like to work on things they’re good at, like if you’re strong on the bench press you just throw more weight on the bench. But Cam works on things he’s not at good at and tries to improve on a daily basis and that’s something I really respect about him. That’s not easy for players or really any of us to do. We’ll get something we’re not really good at or it’s not our strength and you spend extra time on it when our natural tendency is to do things we’re good at. So he works extremely hard in all areas.”

What do you think about this potential pick up?
