Report: Patriots Re-Sign Athletic Inside LB for 53-Man Roster

The New England Patriots have sign a great inside LB before the 2020 season. The Patriots have been huge this off season. They have been making moves left and right trying to get back on track. Now, they have made yet another move which must mean they think it will help them be more successful.

Cassh Maluia, who was the New England Patriots‘ 5th-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has been resigned. He is officially part of the 53 man roster now which could be great news.

This started when the Patriots had to put defensive tackle Beau Allen on injured reserve list. After they did this, the team looked to Maluia, who cleared waivers after being let go last week. The Patriots signed him to the practice squad but he did not stay there for long. Bill Belichick made the decision to replace Allen soon after, however.

Patriots LB coach Jerod Mayo had a lot of good things to say about Maluia during training camp. One of the things that he noticed most from him was his athleticism. However, Mayo was completely honest and did admit that he had a long way to go in the film room.

“I think first and foremost, you’ve got to start with just his overall athleticism,” Mayo said. “He can run, he’s fast, he can do a lot of different things there. We’ve just got to focus on the classroom with Cassh. Hopefully, he can contribute, not only on defense but also in the kicking game, but we’ll see. It’s tough coming in here as a rookie. It’s tough coming in and really being able to display your athleticism when you’re thinking so much. Cassh, hopefully, he continues trending in the right direction, but we’ll have to wait and see for the next couple of weeks.”

That is not a bad assessment for a 5th round pick from this year. He will obviously still have a lot to learn but this is something that the team can work with this season. The defense was one of the bright spots from last year so let’s hope this helps.
