Report: ‘Several’ NFL Head Coaches Could Reportedly Be Fined

The coronavirus pandemic has affected every league in the country, including the NBA and NFL. There are specific guidelines for players and coaches to follow. It looks like the league will deliver a big fine for some coaches for not wearing a face mask during games. According to most recent reports, the NFL wants several coaches to be fined for not using their masks properly at the sidelines.

The league has warned every team following the season opener. They reminded coaches and staff members of the coronavirus protocols. Some coaches didn’t use their masks during Week 1 games, and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick wore his differently.

“[W]e must remain vigilant and disciplined in following the processes and protocols put in place by not only the league, union and clubs, but also by state and local governments,” NFL VP Troy Vincent wrote in the memo delivered to teams. “Becoming careless or ignoring face covering and physical distancing requirements will put the 2020 season at risk.”

The NFL wants head coaches to be fined

The situation improved in Week 2, but there were major issues in some games. Will the NFL fine head coaches?

“The NFL is reviewing several coaches’ failure to properly wear face coverings in the sideline area during Sunday’s games for potential discipline, I’m told,” Tom Pelissero wrote on Twitter. “NFL VP Troy Vincent sent a warning to clubs last week. The next step could be fines for offenders.”

Coach Belichick went viral for his facemask on Sunday. ProFootballTalk reported that several NFL coaches will receive a message from the league. We all know what that means.

“As one league source explained it to PFT, the NFL likely will implement reasonable fines while also demanding a commitment that there will be no further violations. Then, if there are further violations, the financial consequences will increase dramatically.”

The NFL has a great plan for the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. They conduct COVID-19 tests regularly, and there’s no room for mistake this time. Even one positive test can put the regular season on hold. The NBA suspended the season in March and players didn’t return to the basketball court until August.
