Watch: Adrian Phillips Come Up Clutch, Log First Interception With New England

Adrian Phillips’ has officially snagged his first interception in a New England Patriots uniform. The interception came at a very opportune time. The New England Patriots have been playing pretty well this afternoon. It is definitely a learning experience for everyone on the team as well as the coaches.

Phillips had a nice interception on Miami quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick with a bit under a minute to go in the first half of the Dolphins and Patriots Week 1 game at Gillette Stadium. Miami was down on their AFC East rival 7-3. They were on a drive at the Patriots 47-yard line and still had two timeouts. Then, Phillips was able to read Fitzpatrick’s movements and stopped the Dolphins from getting a touchdown before halftime.

It has been a good defensive and offense game for the Patriots thus far. We will see if they are able to continue their high level of play. Take a look at Phillips interception:

Phillips’ pick was already the Patriots second interception of the week 1 clash agains the Dolphins. The former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore also intercepted one of Fitzpatrick throws back in the first quarter. Cam Newton, the new quarterback for the Patriots, was able to get through the first two quarters of his New England first game without any interceptions.

Head coach Bill Belichick knew what Newton was bringing to the table. He talked about what he saw from Cam earlier in the off season.

“We wanted to add competition,” Belichick said. “We always try to add competition to our team, and we felt like we’d be able to do that. He was very open to talking about and working with our situation. We were able to work things out. We’ll just take it day by day and see how it goes. I’m glad we have him.

“It’s been fun to work with him. He’s a very talented player with a unique skillset. Again, we’ll see where it all goes, but he’s got a lot to work with.”

What do you think of this interception from Phillips? It should be a sign of good things to come.
