Bill Belichick Gives Update on Cam Newton’s COVID-19 Situation

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is a man of few words. He kept the same approach in the most recent session with media members. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton has missed some time due to his positive COVID-19 test. Cornerback Stephon Gilmore and defensive tackle Bill Murray have the virus, too. What will happen next? The great Bill Belichick didn’t say much about the COVID-19 situation in New England.

Newton announced his positive results nearly two weeks ago. Veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer stepped in as a replacement for Newton. He had some struggles, and the Patriots decided to go with second-year quarterback in the final quarter. Newton didn’t join his teammates in the 26-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Many would agree that the 2015 NFL MVP gives his team the best chance to win games. Things won’t look that good for the Patriots if Newton misses too many games.

Head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t reveal much about the COVID-19 situation

Coach Belichick talked about Newton’s status on Monday. As usual, he didn’t say much. NFL fans will have to wait a little longer to find out whether the legendary quarterback will return to the winning lineup.

How’s he doing physically?” Belichick said of Newton’s health. “Any player that would come back to the team off the COVID (list) would have to go through medical clearance. . . . We’ll see how that goes.”

Belichick probably implied that his starting quarterback hasn’t gone through medical clearance. Maybe he is just playing mind games with his next opponents.

New England will have plenty of time to prepare for their next game. Week 5 is bye, and players will meet the Denver Broncos in Week 6. The NFL made this decision after being told of another positive test.

Hopefully, the situation won’t get out of control. NFL players are not even halfway through the season. But, too many positive tests would actually endanger the health of players, and the NFL will be forced to come up with the least favorite solution.
