Cam Newton Admits His Connection With Julian Edelman is ‘Definitely Off’

Cam Newton, Julian Edelman, N’Keal Harry, the McCourty twins and the rest of the guys on the Patriots roster had no luck against the San Francisco 49ers. It was a quiet night for the New England Patriots and NFL analysts are worried about the struggles players had on the field. It was a home game after all.

Newton talked about his connection with Edelman following the 33-6 loss to the Niners. Let’s not forget that he was benched in the fourth quarter. Head coach Bill Belichick put second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham on the field.

“Our Wi-Fi is definitely off,” the 2015 NFL MVP said. “And it’s frustrating because knowing the person Julian is and knowing the body of work that he puts in each and every week and day and from preparation to biometrically with his body, you fall in love with a person like that. And with me, I just want to win. I just want to find a way to win. And here of late, that hasn’t been the case.”

Cam Newton doesn’t click with Julian Edelman

Newton threw to Edelman just once. This pass was behind Tom Brady’s favorite receiver. The ball just tipped off Edelman’s hands and went straight into Jamar Taylor’s hands. A pure interception. Newton threw three interceptions in the awful loss.

Edelman had two passes from Stidham. One of the targets was intercepted. The Patriots veteran finished the game with one catch for 13 yards. Not his typical game.

Newton has been a bit rusty since his return on the field.

In Week 2, Edelman had 179 receiving yards. But, he stopped here. The wideout has caught eight passes on 21 targets for 79 yards and no scores in four games.

“We’ve got to figure it out,” Newton said. “We’ve got to figure it out.”

Edelman is the third receiver in playing time this season. He trails Damiere Byrd and N’Keal Harry in snaps. That knee injury is still here.

Harry had to leave Sunday’s match due to a concussion. Jakobi Meyers stepped in as a replacement for him. He took most of Harry’s snaps.
