Cam Newton Responds To Jeff Garcia’s Criticism Of His Gameday Outfit

Cam Newton and the New England Patriots finished their Week 7 with a loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and Jeff Garcia has something to say about his gameday outfit. Truth is, Newton sure knows how to make an appearance. The 2015 NFL MVP wore the perfect outfit last night, and Garcia was pretty frustrated.

The former NFL quarterback criticized Newton on NBC Sports Bay Area’s postgame show. San Francisco smashed New England in a 33-6 win at Gillette Stadium. Garcia’s comments are pretty harsh. He just doesn’t like the way Newton dresses.

“You go into this game with two touchdowns, four interceptions, you threw what, three more interceptions? You get yanked in the second half, there’s nothing good going your way,” Garcia said. “Why are you dressing like that to bring more attention to yourself? I’d be trying to ask the equipment managers, ‘Put me in your jock sock cart and sneak me in the back door and I’ll show up on the field and do the best that I can.’”

What did Newton do? He took notice of the comments Garcia made. New England benched the starting quarterback early in the fourth quarter after throwing three interceptions. Jarrett Stidham stepped in as a replacement.

Newton appeared on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” to talk about his game and the comments Garcia made.

“You know what’s crazy, I agree with him,” the quarterback said. “And the fact that he’s a former player, he has every right to say that. And until that happens, so be it. But that’s another opinionated theory, and it’s fair to say. I know I come off to so many different people so many different ways, and that’s fine. You know what, he’s exactly right. But I’m not changing the way I dress. I’m sorry. I don’t know Jeff, but I would say this: I do certain things because of the culture I’m from. And where I’m from — I don’t know where Jeff is from, and I don’t want to harp on it too long — but let’s just say he’s right.”

Fair enough. Newton has a nice style, and NFL fans love it. His poor performance has nothing to do with his gameday outfits.

Newton entered his first season with the Patriots with a good performance. COVID-19 affected his game, and he was a bit rusty in the last couple of games. Hopefully, this will change in the next few games. Head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t like to lose.
