Future Hall of Famer Rumored as Realistic Free Agent Option For Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers may need to add more talent to the roster if they want to enter deep postseason in 2020-21. According to recent reports, Carmelo Anthony may be of great help in the process. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel can use his talent in the rotation. Melo is a good free agent option for the Lakers right now.

Melo becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Greg Swartz from Bleacher Report listed him as a “realistic” target for the Lakers. Melo has a nice experience and scoring ability, and he can easily become the sixth man for the Lakers. Plus, he doesn’t cost much. Melo played on the veteran minimum in Portland. He has made $25o million in his career, so money should not be a problem at this point.

Melo was a starter in 58 games for the Portland Trail Blazers. He was averaging 14.5 points, 6.3 assists per game. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum were the top scorers for the team. Portland secured the No.8 spot in the West and Melo had a key role in the process.

The veteran had a one-year break before signing with the Blazers. He plays elite basketball, and the Lakers may use that really well.

A free agent option LA Lakers should consider

LeBron James would pair well with the 10-time NBA All-Star. Melo was named to an All-NBA team six times and he is also a scoring champion. The talented veteran won three Olympic gold medals and one bronce medal. He needs his championship ring though.

In his interview with media members following the Blazers’ departure from the Orlando bubble, Melo said he would like to play with Portland in 2020-21.

“I pray that it can be Portland,” he said of his free agency. “Honestly, I think I’ve found a home in Portland. I got comfortable with the organization, I got comfortable with the guys on the team, they got comfortable with me, and at this point in my career I do think that that’s the best fit for me, the best situation, especially having this experience now and kind of just getting my feet wet and just coming in and being who I am and staying true to myself. I really hope that it can be Portland at the end of the day where we give ourselves a chance to keep this team together, get guys healthy, and get another run at it.”
